The first scientific meeting of the Stroke Society of Australasia (SSA) occurred in Perth in 1990. Since then a scientific meeting has occurred each year with meetings being hosted in New Zealand, Singapore and all Australian states. An esteemed list of keynote speakers have contributed to the success of the meetings providing inspired presentations and promoting stimulating discussions. There have also been some combined meetings. In 2000 the meeting was co-hosted with the 4th World Stroke Congress, in 2008 the meeting was co-hosted with Smart Strokes, and in 2009 the meeting was co-hosted with the 6th Asia Pacific Conference Against Stroke.
